The Local Area

Travellers Rest Holiday Cottage is situated just off the A171, a few miles west of Whitby.

Nearby Villages & Yorkshire Moors

The village of Ugthorpe is approximately 2 miles away by car (or a 10 minute walk) and Lealholm is another nearby village offering a pub, village shop, Post Office and railway station. A bus stop on the Whitby - Middlesbrough route is only 500 yds down the road.

The Yorkshire Coast

The cottage is a great place from which to explore this stretch of the North Yorkshire coast. Whitby is only a short drive away and with it's huge sandy beach, museums, cafes, galleries, shops and other attractions there's plenty for the whole family to enjoy. Also nearby are the pretty Esk Valley villages of Grosmont (with it's steam railway) and Goathland (made famous through the filming of Heartbeat). There are many other small villages nestled in the Esk Valley making this a wonderful area for keen walkers or cyclists.

Other places of interest include Robin Hood's Bay, Staithes, Sandsend and Runswick Bay which are all easily accessible with wonderful sandy beaches. Across the moors are Thornton Dale, Pickering and York which are all worth a visit. Dalby Forest offers miles of walking and cycling paths and there are many great wildlife spots nearby such as Falling Foss and May Beck.
